Dr. George Ofori-Dwumfuo

Dr. George Ofori-Dwumfuo is a distinguished alumnus of Mawuli School in Ho, Ghana, where he spent seven formative years as a science student. His time at Mawuli helped lay a strong academic and personal foundation that shaped his journey toward excellence in academia, technology, leadership, and entrepreneurship.

After graduating from Mawuli School, Dr. Ofori-Dwumfuo pursued higher education at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with First Class Honours in 1976. He later continued his studies in the United Kingdom at Aston University in Birmingham, where he obtained a PhD in Computer Science in 1982. His academic journey also included postdoctoral research at the University of Aberdeen, further strengthening his expertise in computing and information technology.

Dr. Ofori-Dwumfuo built an impressive international academic career, serving as an Assistant Professor at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and later as a Visiting Professor at Syracuse University in the United States. Through these appointments, he contributed to teaching, research, and the advancement of computer science education.

Beyond academia, Dr. Ofori-Dwumfuo demonstrated significant leadership in the corporate technology sector. He served for ten years as Chief Manager of Information Technology at Bank for Housing & Construction, where he applied his technical expertise and leadership capabilities to the management and development of information technology within the banking industry. This experience strengthened his professional foundation at the intersection of technology, organisational management, and institutional development.

He subsequently continued his academic career at the University of Wisconsin before returning to Ghana, where he assumed several senior leadership positions across higher education. These included serving as Dean of IT at Ghana Telecom University, Dean of IT at Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, Vice Rector of University College of Management Studies, and Head of the IT Department at Methodist University College Ghana. Through these roles, he contributed to the development of information technology education, academic administration, and institutional leadership in Ghana.

Beyond his work in academia and technology, Dr. Ofori-Dwumfuo has made notable contributions to business and healthcare. He served as Deputy CEO and Board Member of DEL International Hospital Limited, an institution he helped incorporate in 2011 with colleagues to support improved healthcare delivery and quality of life in Ghana. His entrepreneurial ventures also include initiatives such as All Day Forex Bureau Limited and other trading and import businesses, reflecting his ability to bridge academia, technology, and enterprise.

Dr. Ofori-Dwumfuo has remained deeply connected to his alma mater. He served as President of the Old Mawuli School Union (OMSU) during the Mawuli @ 50 celebrations and later became a Board Member of Mawuli School. He currently serves as an Executive Council Member of OMSU, continuing his commitment to alumni engagement, institutional development, and service to the Mawuli community.

His journey from a young science student at Mawuli School to an internationally experienced academic, banking technology leader, university administrator, entrepreneur, and contributor to national development stands as a powerful testament to the enduring values of discipline, leadership, and excellence instilled by Mawuli School.
